Cookies
“Cookies” are small files that a website sends to the internet user’s browser, and the browser returns them to the server when the website is revisited and thus identifies the user. In this way, the website can, for example, customise advertisements, record the history of visits, store settings, usernames and passwords, etc. – by collecting various data, including personal information about the user.
The new Electronic Communications Act (ZEKom-1) requires each website that uses cookies to provide the user with the following information:
- what kind of cookies it contains,
- the purpose for which they are collected, and
- the way they are used.
